The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:11
When someone says the word garden, what do you think of? Do you think of a beautifully landscaped garden like you find at the Biltmore Estate, a place of peace and rest and beauty? Do you think of a garden in the backyard of a home that grows vegetables for the dinner table, feeding people, sustaining life? Or do you think of something else, maybe the amount of work that goes into one?
I must say I thought of all those things, but after reading Isaiah 58, especially verse 11 I realized that we are a garden. We can be a place of peace and rest, a place of refreshing. We can also be a place where people draw strength and be fed, not in the natural sense but spiritually and emotionally. We just have to partner with the Lord and work with Him in the process, not against Him. He is the master gardener. He takes us though times of planting, watering, fertilizing (what does that look like?), even takes us through times of pruning and weeding (ouch).
So with all that said, I want to be that garden. May you find rest, encouragement, hope, refreshing, whatever you may need from the Lord here, and you become the garden He wants you to be!
