The Garden

The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:1

Beyond Faith to Trust

Faith is something I have. But trust is something I do. It is the response of my faith. I believe that God saves, heals, delivers, provides, in short I believe His promises.  Isn’t that wonderful?  Then everything is good, right?   But what happens when what I think will make me happy, or the plan I have for my life, or something I prayed for believing doesn’t happen, or at least not the way I want it to?   That is when I need to trust.

Trust is believing that God’s promises are true, even in those situations where the evidence of it seems contrary. You see God is sovereign. He sees not just my yesterdays, today and tomorrow but He sees yours.  I think Romans 8:28 sums it up pretty well, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His”  So I trust Him.

My oldest daughter was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2. We were told that she would probably not live to her 3rd birthday, which was just a few months away. However, she lived, I was going to say survived but she did so much more than survive, she lived for 9 more years. Yes, those were years filled with tears and every other feeling you could think of, but they were days of even more joy, love, hope and even peace.  I learned so much about My wonderful Lord.  I learned that he really does love me, that he is always with me.  I learned to TRUST Him and even after my daughter’s going home I learned to TRUST Him even more, and with that trust comes a peace that is indescribable.

So whatever you are going through, I encourage you to trust Him. How do you do that? Get to know Him by reading The Word and find those scriptures that talk about trust, spend time in prayer and not just talking to Him but listening for Him to speak, find  someone who will encourage you and help you.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,  And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him,  And He shall direct[a]your paths.

Finally, for me trust is knowing that God does have the best for us, not just for me but for all. Think about this: When Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane and he prays “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”  Where would we be if God had answered that prayer with a yes?  However, Jesus knowing the Father as He did, trusted Him knowing the greater glory and good wouldn’t come from Jesus’ will or desire,  but God’s.    But it didn’t stop him from asking.

So Keep Praying, Believing, and Trusting!
